like boo i got 18-21 on my 6mi trip to work w my maunal 545. im lucky to get 16-18 on my 650 auto. drove the 545 from pittsburg to seattle and got 16.5 at 70-80. the computer said 26.6 so they can be clsoe. there a fix for the calibration on some sites.
I thought I can save some gas for buying a smaller engine but it ends up the same. I should have got the V8 instead, shouldn't I?

My Ride: 520d saloon, manual 6 ratios, olivin metallic, star spoke 122 alloys, delete boot badge, bi-xenon adaptive headlights including washers, graduated tinted windscreen, exterior and interior mirror auto dimming plus electric folding door mirrors, extended light package, dakota beige leather, dark poplar wood, electric seat adjustment including memory function, heated front seats, advanced climate control, velour floor mats, sliding front armrest, lumbar support for front seats.
My last manual check found that I was doing 39.3 MPG actual and an average of 40.6 MPG on car computer. I would say that's pretty accurate for a computer vs the real life situation.

My Ride: 2004 545i
Production date: 02/04
Color: Black Sapphire Metallic
Trim: Anthracite
Options: Sport package with STEPTRONIC, Premium Sound, Rear Sunshade, Xenon
My computer on my 545i reads 15.1 mpg
I did a comparison between MPG (US) from the computer and MPG calculated from the fuel/mileas for both my 545i and the new 530i.
The cimputer on the 545i was about 7% better than the real consumprtion and the 530i is over 10% off.
The 545i consumption average was 17.6 mpg over ~ 4000 miles and the 530i get a (disappointing) 18.6 mpg.
The best highway mileage I had was 27.4 for the 545i and 30.2 for the 530i.

+ 1 23-26 city and highway 31-32 highway. In warm weather. In cold weather it drops a little bit, 21- 24 city and highway and 29-30 highway.

It seems the V-8 6spd is not accurate. I had questioned this from the start and finally gave up.
I am off 5-6mpg. I drive 90% highway and 10% fun during my day and I averge 21-22mpg where my computer says 27-28mpg. On a trip I will get 25-26mpg (driving 80mph) and the computer will register 30-32mpg.
There is a calibration value that is supposed to help this. I had the dealer change it once but they made it worse so I just canned it. The info was a thread from a year ago or so. Here is the info:
Reseting mileage calculations
hold in reset button approx 30 seconds until information comes up,scroll thru
menu by pressing reset button to code 19(lock on)wait until new info is displayed
scroll again to code 21 wait until info comes up,go to code 20 push reset once this will start right hand digit scrolling hit reset when digit you want to select is displayed,2nd digit will now start scrolling, continue until all digits are set,you must then hold reset button until new code is displayed
The only thing that really bothers me is it effects the miles to empty when you start getting low.
I guess when you spend this much money on the car, I would think the mpg calculation should be +/- 1mpg.
So, if anybody gets this to work, let me know and I may try it again.

Your numbers are amazing. I can't even get close and boy, did I try for two tank fillings recently. In the city I simply cannot get above 20 mpg even with the A/C off, doing everything in 6th gear, coating as much as I can, etc.
cheers
