Hi

When using different keys the seats change automatically to the positions as set by the M1 & M2 buttons.

If a third driver borrows my key and adjust the seats but hasn't memorised this position with the M1 or M2 buttons should the seat go back to my preferred settings (M1) next time I use the car or remain as adjusted?

Yes , if no programming (M) was pressed your key will adjust the seat automatically.

The next time you use the car again it will remember the LAST setting the same key was used.

So if the third driver borrowd your car with key #2 then the next time you drive the car with your original Key #1 it will start up with what you left off with... Your setting... and then 3 weeks later you unlock or start the car with Key #2 it will revert back to the position and settings the third driver...

So basically the key remembers the last position and settings of when the key was last used...

On my car if that person locks the doors with the FOB.....'remote' then my settings are lost.

Mine does as it damn pleases. I use basically just one FOB. It does remember my setting and sometimes it goes there and sometimes not.

I have set #1 to my driving position and #2 as my exit position. Both these work but most often I have to hold the appropriate button ? it will not assume the desired setting automatically.

How can I set it up so that when I start up it moves to #1 and when I shut down it moves to #2? Seems like it ought to do that.

I find the Owners Manual confusing on this issue.

I don't think that's possible. As far as I know, the key memory and seat memory are basically unrelated but can tie together. The key memory should always take the seat back to the last position used with that key. You can only set it to activate on "unlock" or "open", not "start". If you switch to yout exit position and lock the car, the key will remember that. If you use the seat memory settings, the key basically "copies" that setting.

If a friend uses the same key and screws up the seat position, you need to use a seat memory setting to get your position back (unless he messed with that too). The setting saved in the other key however is retained the next time it is used.

HUmmm ya... I know thats what iDrive says.. but the funny thing is... for my car if the car was driven with key 1 and then gets parked in the garage, I never lock it when its in the garage, and then when the next person goes in to drive it with key 2 once I insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position the car starts changing its memory to match that of Key 2... so Its not just unlock or open...
