My 530 should be here in a week or so and it has comfort access. one big ass waste of money...$500 on the 3 series and $1000 on the 5. Ok whatever. Anyway, I red in the manual that you can start the car without the key and all that good stuff. can you actually drive off as well? Or do you have to insert the key? TIA

 

Thats cheap. I'm paying USD 2666.00 for that option to be included in my M6.

With comfort access, you don't need the remote for anything. Just leave it in your pocket. All you need do is open the door, press the start button (with your foot on the brake pedal) to start the car and then drive off.

 

Yes just keep the key fob in your pocket or purse and then get in step on the brake press the start button and then drive off. No need to stick it in the slot. You should once in a while tho to charge the key back up.

Humm if thats the case it seems like a step back... all the keys now or were re-chargable... including the E65s...

I'm considering the CA as well, but I have a few of questions:
1. What happens if your key is stolen or lost - can anyone the drive off with your car?
2. How do you handle someone else driving your car - Valet, shipping (at the port of entry)?
3. Can the key be locked in the car? It's not supposed to be but I hear it has happened.
4. How do you lock the car upon leaving it?

It's $1000 bucks here in Germany (US Specs through Military Sales).

I think the new Start/Stop button makes it mandatory to have CA. I think it's stupid to have a start button and you still have to have the fob in the ignition. That's an extra step. What Dummkopf though of that one - or maybe it was a scheme to charge more for the CA since it makes no sense to have a button if you can't benefit from it...

 

1. Anyone with the key can drive your car away unless you get your dealer to reset your code.
2. Can't answer that question, but I suppose they'll operate the car the same way that you would. I wonder if we will be supplied with a key w/out the CA for valet.
3. If the system in the E65 is anything to go by, you will not be able to lock the key in. Pls read pt 4 for more indication of this.
4. From what I have read, you will have to depress the lock button on the key to lock the car and arm the alarm.

CA is not mandatory. Some guys may think that this little "extra" is not worth the money.

To lock the car you push down on the handle outside, I did it on a 550 the other day at the dealer. Whats $1000.00 on a car that has $15000.00 in options, like what happened to me.

 

Yup, imho it is not mandatory......while certain people here making a big huff and puff about it.

Well after having the car for a week and giving at least 5 people rides in it. Nobody thought the process of starting the car without CA was a big deal at all.

I just think the $1k is better spent elsewhere.
