Question

Excited , I got CA and very happy till now (winter/cold season)
It does not work with gloves on my hands, hope BMW will fix in new BMWs
You have to take out CA fob/takes the gloves off your hands for locking the car
Anyone has any suggestions/ideas......

Worked for me yesterday when I had gloves on...

This may seem like a silly idea, but perhaps making a fist and blowing into it (to warm up your gloved hand) would help? Dunno. I didn't have to do this - mine worked normally.

How does CA actually detect ... is it heat, or is it by creating an earth? If so, perhaps the glove material rather than temperature is the "key" (pun intended!)

This is from 2006 but doubt that things have changed much.

I guess it depends. I have a big bunch of keys, I can't sit down with them in my pocket so like putting them in the "ignition". If I had CA, I would have to take them out of my pocket to drive anyway, so don't see any benefit !!

First time I washed my car I couldn't figure out what the clicking was. Then spotted as the water from the hose for the initial rinse touched the door handle, the car was locking/unlocking simply becuase of the water. The key was in my pocket.

Had to get the book out to discover I needed to insert the key to stop it. This was/is the only time the key is every put into the car.

Reading about the data stored in the keys, read by service people, I checked with my local dealer. Even though the key hasn't been inserted, the data stored in the key was up to date. It must write this out remotly to the key, which is a nice touch.

CA uses a capacitive sensor to detect the presence of your hand. Don't know much more about it except that a capacitive sensor detects two "conductive targets". You can read an overview of capacitive sensor technology here:
http://www.lionprecision.com/capacit...ors/index.html

And learn even more about them here:
