Hi everyone, I bought a 2005 545i about a month ago with 120000 KM on it..sorry to the buddies down south The car was actually imported legally from Florida..not sure when though. I've been reading ever since Anyways, three days ago I turn the car on and the dreaded engine light appears along with the engine malfunction..the worst part is the rough ass idle the car does..it literally shakes like a old 18 wheeler..I took it to an indy and he ran it diagnostic testing then told me that all 8 coils and spark plugs need to be replaced (total cost of $1500) My question is if i take it to BMW will they be able to specifically tell me which coils need replacing or are they going to say the same thing?

http://www.realoem.com is your friend! It tell you what parts you need then go http://www.bimmerspecialist.com/canada/parts/index/bmw (for Canadians) to buy them.

There's almost a $70 difference per coil from what bmw is selling them for and from whats on that site. And their OEM parts..am I missing something here?

It is impossible that all 8 coils went bad at the same time. Do you have the exact code of the check engine light? Is it a random misfire? That would indicate one of the camshaft sensors.

It is a good idea to replace the spark plugs anyway, but I don't think that is the source of your problem.
