Coilovers vs. Springs

Hey all,

I am thinking of getting a non sport and just putting H&R springs on my car from the beginning (soon after delivery). What I am wondering is, why do some get springs and others get coilovers (on 5s, M3s, etc.). Are coilovers more for track use, meaning you can adjust them for regular street use, and then tune them for the track, and springs are non adjustable. Do coilovers include shocks/struts, or am I completely off.

I need a little education on this one!

If you don't get the sports package, some H&R springs with some Koni shocks should give you a good handling car while going easy on your budget.

Coilovers are a complete system, in that you don't need to buy separate shocks/struts. They are adjustable too, so you can go from a track setup to a street setup depending on your needs. Even with the street setup, I would expect them to be a bit more harsh, though they should give you more performance along with an aggressive looking car. This option would cost you quite a bit more than a basic spring/shock combo.

A cup kit are matched springs and shocks. Not sure, but I believe they are supposed to be an intermediate between the two.
