Coding a different used part # on a 2004 E60 545i
Hello all
My apologies if this has been answered here before but I did search here and (googled) with no luck or specific answers to my question.. So Im reaching out to any coding gurus for some info and help on this.
Car Info
2004 BMW 545i (E60), Prod date 03/04
I have upgraded/coded the modules before with no issues using WinKFP. I did this by entering the ZB# (part number) one at a time and let WinKFP program module. No problems
The Problem
I now have two parts/modules that are bad and need replacement.
1) Passenger Seat Module Part # 61356927278
2) Clock Spring Part # 61319129499
I found these parts used online but the part numbers have a different # because they may came out of a 7 series or 530 (or just a newer model) but I was told that these parts will work on my 545i.
My question is this,
Once I replace these parts, when I go to code them do I use the original ZB/Part # (the part/ZB# of the failed module) or code them using the part/ZB # of the actual part (newer working part) number even though it came from a different model?
your suggestion/input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I've replaced several modules in my car and did not update the VIN and have had no issues or error codes. The modules include the satellite radio, both front seats (upgraded to comfort seats) and the CCC components. Why do you need to update the VIN?

Hi Txag_530i
Thanks for the reply...
You brought up something I wasn't thinking about in regards to the VIN.. I was thinking about the zusb# since the new(used) part# will be different then the already/original part in the car hence the zusb number will be different. So I was wondering what zusb# to use when coding the new part... BUT now you brought up another interesting point in regards to the VIN.. I would have thought that the VIN would also have to get changed.. Im somewhat of a NOOB in the sense that I have only code my modules to update all the code. Having said this, I automatically thought that when replacing a module you would have to update its code to the same revision. Sounds like that may not be the case. I alos thought that if the new replaced module didnt get coded or vin changed it would not work to communicate with the DME..
Thanks a bunch for your input!
