Just got V5, the co2 should be 178 but it states 182, help

Can I be bothered speaking to DVLA, or is it because I have larger wheels (Audi quote higher co2 if wheels are bigger)

Please advise guys

From the VCA website, they quote 182 g for up to August 2007 and 178g from Sept 2007.

It is not to do with the wheels as BMW don't make this distinction for some reason.

Check when your car was actually manufacturered and if from Sept, it should be the lower figure. I would contact DVLA - if your is a company car you will pay less tax.

To find out the manufacturing date go into you cars secret menu - there are posts here if you do a seach. This will give you the actual day of manufacture.

I would print off the stuff from the VCA website and send it to them with a letter of explanation. The funny thing is that it may be a dealer issue, as I would have thought the dealer would give them the emissions figure rather than DVLA looking it up.

You could try discussing this with your dealer who could then sort it out on your behalf. It might originate from his error.

Wow!!!
I have just looked at my V5C. It states 200g/Km. The VCA web site, http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/ says my car is 176 g/Km and the V5C says 200g/Km!!!! I paid ?40 too much VED. I will be on the phone in the morning.

Careful, just double check that the info on VCA website applies to your car. Those that are listed as up to August 2007, should say from Marcvh 2007 to August i.e. LCI cars with all the brake regen stuff. Usually, the emissions figures are only listed for current production cars but from your signature, yours is a 2005.

This is a pretty vast discussion.

The official EU CO2 test's are made in a dyno lab, in a 20 minute long period (city and sub-urban mix).

It's hard to compare that with a magazine-test-driver person who drives the cars pedal-to-the-metal style.

Regards,
Thanks for advice, I tried DVLA they said ' I had to have a letter from the manufacturer' , so I took your advice and gave it all back to the dealer to sort. Will let you know out come.

Another point which I picked up, was the new car invoice had the pre LCI tax band on it!!! So I got the refund.

Had the same problem with my LCI 5'er. A Letter from BMW UK Customer Services, with the chasis # of your car and the CO2 volume is what you need. Takes about a month to come back. Had success doing it this way for my car.

Thanks for that. I have contacts at my local BMW Dealer. They gave me a printout of an internal document that details the changes in the 5 Series from week 36 relating to the 3.0 Diesel. It lists all the engine data as well as CO2. I have asked for the necessary letter from Bracknell (BMW UK HQ) and will have it shortly.

My advice is to always check your V5. Could be a major problem for company car drivers and their tax.
