Clunk when braking after moving from start up

Hi E60 members,
I noticed my car has a clunk when I brake immediately after moving from start. This happens either when moving forward or reversing after start up. After this, the car is okay when I brake. My car is an auto. Is it something to do with the brakes?

Check your tie-rods-my car was making the same sound and i jack it up and it was the tie rod ends--about 100 bucks from the dealer and 60 bucks outside of the dealer

My car is a 2005 E60 model. Read that a tie-rod is part of the steering system. I'm not turning the steering wheel when I move the car. The clunk only happens when I start up the car, move and brake. Afterwards, it is fine.
By the way, not sure if this is related, does it make sense for the steering to wobble a little when the engine is cold when travelling on the highway. When the engine is warmed up, he wobble seems to disappear. Strange?

Sounds very much like brake pad chatter. It's caused when there is a slight space between your pads and rotor. The first time you hit your brakes on start up, the pressure closes this small gap and it sometimes causes a slight clunk sound.
How much life to you have left on your pads? If they are very old, go ahead and replace them and that will likely fix the noise.
There there is still decent life on the pads and you don't want to replace, try cleaning up the calipers and possibly purchasing a spacer to place behind the pad. This will allow the pad to slide more smoothly and prevend a clunk.
In any event, have someone pull the wheen and do a quick inspection. It doens't sound like a major deal, but a quick inspection will help restore confidence in the brake system.

I had the same symptoms.
A clunk heard when braking after changing direction forwards or backwards. The clunk was heard only once, until the next change of direction.
The front brake pads were replaced - problem solved - cost ?100 at an independent

Could this be just a cold weather related thing? Does it do it when the temperature is above freezing?

Hi.
This happens to me too, all year, and my guess is that the front brake caliper moves slightly upon the first braking, since the brake cylinders might retract more than usual when car is left unused over night, causing the calipers glide bolts to be somewhat "more stuck".
I have a 525d 2005 btw.
