Hey Guys,
I'm a new owner of a 08 535i with sport, premium, cold weather, etc. Really liking the car so far.
Only issue I've been having is that when I bought the car, I inspected it on friday, picked it up monday. Over the weekend, the interior light was left on so when they tried to pull it around(not a bmw dealership) the battery was completely dead and they had to jump(or charge) it.
Now, whenever I set the clock and radio stations and drive it for an hour, come back and get in it a few hours later, the clock and date will be blank and need setting up again
I have a battery drain warning if I go into the messages, but I cant tell if that is just leftover from the battery drain at the weekend.
Thanks for the help. Hoping its something I'm doing wrong, and not an eletrical gremlin

Found the answer through google. Seems like its a very common problem. Just going to replace the battery and hopefully that cures it... and hopefully find a shop close by thats not the stealer-dealer to "register" the battery

Your battery most likely needs to be replaced since it's at least 4 years old. Mine lasted almost 4 years before I started having the same problems you have.

I had the same error for a year or so. First I thought it was not driving the car too much (doesn't charge the battery), then I thought it was my radar detector or ipod continuing to draw power when the car was off.
I am saying all this because that's what the stealer or a mechanic might tell you. Ignore them.
Eventually, I changed my battery and that fixed everything. Just make sure you do not have any aftermarket electronics for a day or two and are still getting this error.
