Climate Settings

I'm with 555 here. Our temperature for ALL the vents (not just the center vents) is controlled by the iDrive. Changing the manual knobs on the dash does absolutely nothing for changing the temperature. Nothing at all. My dealer just IGNORES that I have this question/problem. That's their new tactic. Don't explain it, don't say it's "normal operation" or "no fault found," just completely ignore the fact that this is one of my complaints.

SueBMW aside (who obviously has various documented issues with his car), I'm not sure you're all "getting" the idea behind I-drive centre vent control setting.
It's important to realise that the 4 blue - 4 red bars scale is RELATIVE to the Temp setting from the twisty knobs AND the interior temp of the car.
For example my preference is to keep the I-drive centre vent level on 1 blue bar.
HOWEVER, this does not mean the centre always blows cool. In cold weather the centre is WARM until the desired temperature is reached, and only then the centre vent is VERY SLIGHTLY cooler than the rest if the air streams.
So, if you like warm air from the centre vent, set it to 2,3 or4 red bars AND LEAVE IT. On a hot day, it will still blow cold air for you (i.e. when the warm temps demand it).
pughmat: The bahaviour you are describing is very strange. I can change my centre vent relative vent setting without the car ever extinguishing the "Auto" light. You may want to get that looked at.
