Every time I start my 2004 545i, the Air Conditioner (Climate Control) comes on automatically.
I always have to press the OFF button to stop it. Sometimes it comes back on about 2 seconds after turning it OFF.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal or can I set it to stay off after starting the engine until I manually turn it on?

On my car:

I turn the manual dial all they down, wait two seconds, then turn it one more notch - the light goes out and the climate control stays off until I manually turn it back on.

Maybe this will work for you.

This is very interesting! There have been earlier threads where folks resolved that the Climate Control could not be kept off, that it was a safety feature so that there was always fresh air entering the cabin.

By manual dial, I assume you mean the fan speed control in the center. The other two are the L/R temp dials, of course.

That makes sense...but what would cause it to come back on when I manually shut it off?

Let me first say that I leave my climate control on all the time, in full auto mode (all three green LEDs along the right side on). The only adjustments I ever make are with the Temp dials. Now, to answer your question, the electronics in this car are very sophisticated. For example, you can blank the iDrive screen, but it never really goes off. Same with the radio. It goes silent, but it is never really off. So, I believe that even if you push the OFF button, the climate control is not really off. The fan may stop, but the system is still monitoring things, and if it decides it should come back on, it will. There was another earlier post about an iDrive warning saying "Poison" or something similar, and the explanation was that the fresh air/recirc air button was not in auto, and the car sensed pollutants in the outside air and wanted to alert the driver to put the climate control in recirc mode.

Yep i've got this issue on my 2004 530i. If i want to shut air off why can't I? Although for me it appears like it's a dodgy connection as sometimes it stays off other times it comes back on...strange

I started a thread on this a few weeks back. I tried this and it seems to work. Kinda ridiculous but it works so whatever.

From what I have heard, this is normal operation.
