Default Climate Control Buttons

So the downside of having the cup holders so close to the dash is that when you hit a bump and your McDonalds cup is too full and spills some over the lid onto the climate control buttons, it's tough. Happened to me and now my AC button is sticky. I can still push it but it's slow to bounce back because of the soda that spilled behind it. I cleaned up as much as I could as soon as I got home. But now it's sticking.

Can those buttons be removed and cleaned? If so what's the best and safest way of removing them without damaging both the button and the unit?
