This may seem like a stupid question.....

is this just a standard heater control unit or is it climate control? If its not can i just replace this unit with the climate control facia and have the function of climate control or do i need other parts?

 

That is a standard climate control unit. Every E60 has A/C.
Then there is an extended climate control available, but you can not swap the control unit straight on. It would need lots of (expensive) work to fit. There's a thread on the forum where an extended climate control is installed on a car which used to have the standard climate control. You should check it for more information.
