For the "manual" vent settigs, as opposed to the auto climate control , I set the controls to send more hot air to the footwell vents. This morning, while driving the car with the vent settings displayed in IDrive, I changesd the temperature setting for the driver side and noticed that the air disribution among the three vents changed by itself. When I made the temperature cooler, less air was directed at the feet, when hotter, more air.

Is this normal? I understand changing the air disribution in auto mode, but in manual, shouldn't I have control. (I understand the "cooler air to the face " issue and do not want to address that again.) My feet get cold and I want more air from those vents, whether I have the temperture set at 80 or 72. Is there any way to disable this feature?

The way you describe it.......no.

The i-drive vent controls only control the distribution of air. The rotary controls control ambient temps and air flow.

You would need to set up the centre vent control to your satisfaction, but you don't want to address this again........

Interesting. Sounds like the settings are relative and not absolute. Presumably, you're still getting more air at your feet than you would have in the auto setting.

Sure would be nice if BMW would provide a comprehensive manual.

They do. Pages 90-94 of the owners manual (as downloadable from this site), covers everything fully.

Your definition of comprehensive and mine differ. I don't see anything about the manual vent adjustments being absolute or relative, which I think is robg's question.

While we're at it, the Auto check-boxes discussed and depicted in the screen shots do not exist in my car's display. (Earlier/later software version?)

And how about this "manual air distribution" introductory sentence:
"You can combine your air distribution yourself and also set the air temperature for the upper body area individually."

Uh huh?

IMHO, the manual could be better, and BMW could provide updates online.

That was excatly my point. Even though I am in the manual setting- the care adjusts my settings based on the temperature. They are not absolute, the amount directed to my feet is relative to the temperature. I can overide the adjustment - that is, go back into the settings and reset the vents as I want them each time I adjust the temperature, but should I have to do this?

I have read the manual, many times. It is silent as to this issue, and, I might add, silent on almost every issue at this level of detail.

I agree, the manual is not comprehensive enough and the english translation is er... marginal at times.

I am not sure about the check boxes since I haven't made any changes to the ventillation settings for a long time. I will check it out.

I had em and then lost them with V12x of the software. They were useless anyway. They provided the same function as hiitting the hard auto button on the dash

Maybe it is time to reprint the owner's manual to reflect the many software changes
