Has anyone had a problem with a clicking sound(like a starter going bad) when opening the doors or unlocking the car. The sound is coming from under the hood.

I hear a faint whirring or clicking noise at least sometimes. Given it's volume, I don't yet think of it as a problem. How loud is your noise?

I have clicking, whirring and hissing sounds but when you floor it through the gears or slide it around an on-ramp at speed it sounds much better.
Kidding aside, I try not to get upset about minor noises unless it is affecting the function of something. When I bring the car in for something else I give the dealer my list.

Uh, Oh! Here we go again...

If it is a rapid clicking sound that happens when you unlock the car it is very likely to be your steering rack. (I've been through two already - see my sig. ).
I'm not sure what causes the clicking but the two times I had it occur the end result was a new rack.

Typically it takes several days to complete the job and hopefully there is a steering rack somewhere in the country (both of mine had to come from Germany).

Hope I'm wrong but I'm probably right.

Good luck.

If it's a "clicking" sound you hear when the steering wheel moves or down (during entry/exit), then it could also be an incorrect torque on the column. Mine was fixed by correcting the torque (according to my SA)

I have had a fast clicking sound emit from the dash board near the CD area, when the car is asleep and I open the door. Lasts 5 seconds or so and then stops. Has happened 4 times.

I'm sorry to have to agree with realtyman - but it may well be steering related. I had the same issue, often (but not always) accompanied by an Active Steering fault warning. My SA said it could be solved with a software upgrade. I was dubious but in fact the clicking sound has gone away, but I still think I've got AS problems.
