I noticed the other day that my front bumper had a small area where the clear coat had come off the paint. I suspected that someone had bumped into my car at a parking lot. Today when I washed the car, I noticed that the clear coat is pealing of the headlight washer plastic lid. The color is deep sea blue and the car was built in April 2007.

Anyone else experiencing this?

+1

I've had this problem with other cars that had body work done as well.

Me too! And I know there was a new bumper placed on the car before I got it.

That really sucks. I agree with the others that the bumper may have been repainted before.

I too have an April 2007 Deep Sea Blue car, and have had several patches of clear coat peel from the front bumper.

As a goodwill gesture, BMW covered part (33%) of the cost of having it re-sprayed.

They were adamant that it was down to my driving style! Approx 85,000K when I brought it to their attention. This was factory original finish.

From what I can see, this colour does not wear well..I treat my car like a baby and don't tailgate, do almost 100% motorway driving and always wash by hand.

The front apron and bonnet had sever road rash and really made the car look bad.

This has remedied it, but at some cost.

BMW Dealer suggested I fit a "foil" i.e. clear bra, but when I enquired they had never supplied one before.

I've had the car since it was new so I am sure the bumper has not been repainted. I always handwash the car and I am really careful with it. Seems like this is something that does happen to a few cars. Let's see what the dealer says.
