In the last few days I read a post on this Board that said ?CIP? has been replaced by ?PROGMAN?. I searched but could not dig up the post or postor.

Just got my E60 back from service and the invoice noted ENCODED CAR USING CIP 28.2.

Are we just slow in the south or are they both still used? Or are they the same?

Really the same although the terminology changed after CIP 19 to Progman.

From all that I remember reading on here and elsewhere, CIP and Progman are merely different terminology for the same thing. Not sure which is the more current term though.

Well I'm sure this will clear up any confusion - Haha. BMWs take on the subject is in the SIB starting under my translation.

What I have found is the CD or on-line distribution will normally be identified as a CIP #. Within that distribution will be PROGMANs for the various platforms (3s, 5s&6s, 7s, X5s). Although the update is new compard to the previous CIP release NOT ALL PROGMANs may have changed. So you get CIP 27.01.01 and your buddy gets CIP 28.00.00 a month later and guess what? You both have the SAME PROGMAN version - Target Data Status E060-07-09-521. And oh BTW, there were a total of 5 CIP versions that were all the same PROGMAN in that series. Clear????????

Thanks cobradav.

I'm glad we got that straightened out!

Now I know I shouldn't try that at home!
