My car is in the shop having the calipers painted. While there, they're dropping in the latest CIP (I think it's 26.01). I had retrofitted the iPod adapter last fall. So my question is, if they upgrade the CIP, will the iPod functionality work like a factory installed USB iPod adapter? In other words, will the iDrive still think/behave like it's looking at the 6 pack CD changer or will I get the improved functionality of the LCI?

I had questions about the LCI interface when I got my iphone. The new interface must be factory installed - no retrofit and it is two cables 1 usb and 1 power. Our 2nd gen ipod kits are totally different, its not about the software.

I just had 27.x installed on Tuesday and I cannot find a single item or functionality different in my IDrive but my random on my IPod works now but other than that the IPod adapter is the same. The one thing that I did find with CIP 27 is that is much faster than 26. There were times when it would take almost 2 min before I would get the accept screen and I used to have problems with lag from the crontroler input to reponse. Not is much faster and all inputs are immediate. I am very happy w/ the 27.x upgrade

Let me re-phrase the question - will the menus/functionality in the iDrive be similair to the LCI? The adaptor simply tricks the computer into thinking it's looking at the CD changer. CD1 is all the songs, CD2 playlists, etc. I assume the LCI has a different iPod interface through the iDrive screen?
You will get one-click to play functionality if you presently have two-clicks to play with your current software version.
The random will also work better.

Other than a color change, they will be identical to what you have now.
