My dealer said that unless something was actually wrong with the version I have, they wouldn't upgrade it for me.

my dealer sucks!

There are lots of issues in the SW that warrent an upgrade - have you had any false puncture warnings ?

Search around for faults in your current SW on this forum and prove those faults to your dealer. They'll update SW for you.
Complaints:

Static noises coming from speaker intermittenly
Windows rolling up and suddenly down intermittenly
Slow Throttle response
...

just tell them something wrong with the idrive and they know there are so many problem about it. they'll upgrade it for you under warranty .

If everything is working properly, then your dealer may have done you a favor. But, as others have indicated, there may be problems with your software that you are not aware of yet.

Hmmm, I if really do not have a problem with your car, why should you update it?

At least wait for the version 19.
That should be available in Oct/Nov at your lousy dealer.

Actually I?m getting my updated right now for following:

1. AM static (installing new antenna, which requires re-programming)
2. Brakes squeaking
3. Windshield wipers
4. Low oil level
