I'd say if you have the 2004 software still on then get the upgrade. The prices seem to vary so much from dealer to dealer so best to complain about some problems and see if that reduces the prices quoted.

You have to be careful not getting caught up in a lie though I imagine. You can't say stuff like "my iDrive reboots itself every 30 minutes" for them to go and look in the system log and find it reboots 2 or 3 times a month. I think I'll just haggle.

Does anyone know if the voice-command system is also part of this software upgrade? I have a German-market car and although I could (if I had to) manage just fine with it in German, I switched the display language to English and the Navigation also speaks it's directions to me in English. The voice command system remains in German though. I find it only a novelty feature anyway, but I'd like to know whether or not if I get my software upgraded in the UK, will the voice-command system suddenly accept English commands.

Thanks, will do. Good to know at least that they are separate.

But, like a PC, if it is slow (like Vista) then upgrade (to XP ).

Anyone actually had to pay their dealer to upgrade? How much was it? I'm looking to UK/Europe people here as a guide for pricing I guess, although I'll take a US amount (and double it) as a guide too.

I expect mine's original 2004 software so I'm keen to know what advantages I might get. Seems like I can expect Navi improvements, something with the eyebrows (although I can't see them when I'm driving so don't care about that), and possibly some auto shifting improvements, and of course bugfixes/stability).
vista is not slow itis very fast for photoshop and 3d max and other design tools
I have the same as you from day 1 when I got my car 2004/7 software which I have not a cloue what version it is.
If there is nothing wrong with the car like most ppl say dont upgrade.

POIs have always been there and can be shown on the map with any prior version. V25 only allowed you to search for POIs by name or criteria.
I was never able to show POIs on the map. Is there any trick to it? Do you need a newer map dvd? I have what came with the car which is of 2005 ver.

And my angle eye, eyebrows do light up, kind of redish. Does that indicate that the CIP has been updated from the original. I have recently had the dealer add the mp3 functionality as the in-dash cd player did not recognize the mp3 cd. Now it does. But dealer stated they only did the mp3 update and nothing else. All very confusing....

Thanks

My dealer just told me he can't do the update to make my 01/2006 530d play MP3. Can you tell me when it was upgraded and how much you paid?

Cheers,

virgil

I got mine updated about a month ago. I showed the dealer this SIB (attached) that I found on this forum and they did the update under warranty, no charge.

That's unusual. When I first joined here last month, I searched the forums and read through the MP3 CD threads and it seemed that almost everybody was saying it can't play them, regardless of model year. Maybe I should have persisted.

The replies you were getting would be in relation to the cd changer not paying MP3s, is that what you were asking? The main cd drive in the dash is able to play them but older cars need an update like the SB says.
