Checked with my dealer the other day for the upgrade and was told they only do it if you have a problem with the current version and even said it wasn't better than the 19.2 that I have
anyone found out different???

With Nav Pro the BIG difference should be: 19.xx no MP3, 20.xx YES MP3

Maybe you can enlighten me..?
I had a software upgrade yesterday on my 530d. The initial software was something like 06-09-XXX. Now I have 05-12-500 (date coded 5th December I guess). There is no reference to v19.XX or V20.00.XX etc. Am I talking at cross purposes..? Is the car s/w different, and the it's the Nav s/w that is version 20.xx.xx etc. Is CIP the same thing...? Sorry for the basic nature of the question but until I saw these numbers on the service report I thought I understood!!!

AFAIK there is no way to know by yourself which version of CIP do you have, only the dealer can tell you.
If you have Nav Pro you should have MP3 with CIP 20.0, but when they installed CIP 20.0 to me MP3 wasn't working, they forget to setup an update.
I came back to dealer and in 15 minutes all was resolved.

OK Thanks Ricky but how does the "05-12-500" relate to the v20.xx.xx etc? (Maybe it doesn't)!

Quite obvious from this list you are mistaken on your recollection of your previous version. When you get car back from dealer always ask for the "Status" or Final Report. Actually u should let them know in advance -when u take car in - that u want a copy of this report. Then u will know what u had and what they upgraded you to. They use Target Data Status at the car system level but the distribution is via CIP and now PROGMAN.

Yeah, I did ask them for my present version and what they had upgraded to prior to upgrade. From the list you kindly sent I can see that I was slightly mistaken..Intially I was E060-05-09-510, now I'm E060-05-12-500. So clearly as a x-ref from the sheet I'm CIP 20.00.00...Excellent, just what I wanted to know, thanks!

Well, isn't that the way it always is--not available free, at least, unless one has a problem. I wish I hadn't had the problem of not having MP3 capability. Then, I wouldn't have updated to 20.01.00. Ugh!

My car is going back into the dealer on Tuesday for a daig session re a PUMA for trans slam...a surprise when you consider my car is a sept 05 build. The PDF shown here suggests that CIP V19.0 shoud be on my car based on that build date...a couple of questions, do they always use the latest CIP in manufaturing? and should I be concerned about them programming CIP V20 as Ive seen quite a few negs.

Any feedback welcome

The current wisdom is the factory does beat the release to dealers. I cannot prove that, but a few (about 5) datapoints have indicated this to be the case.

It's not a question I ever posed to SA so I will next time just to see what he says - not that the SA will really know for sure either

The current operating theory is yes, factory sooner than version released to dealer. However, I cannot say that as a fact. But the few data samples I've noted (about a handful) indicate this to be true.
