Hi

My car was at the dealers today for correction of a "High battery drain" message that kept appearing.

Apparantly they have had to update the CIP to Ver.20.02.00 to rectify this, now this came as a surprise to me as i thought they were just going to replace the battery.

The problem is i wanted to get MP3 cabability enabled on my car and have been trying to think of an excuse to get the CIP upgraded and low and behold they go and do it today without my knowledge.

Does anybody know wether Ver.20.02.00 adds MP3 as standard or does it have to be selected from the retrofit menu on the dealers terminal? my car is an Oct 2005 build.

Anybody know of any other features/faults that Ver.20.02.02 adds/corrects?

I think it will, but the dealer has to also check a box to activate the MP3 playing capability or it will not happen.

Has it fixed the high battery drain - I still have this after supposedly being updated to the latest software ?

I don't know for sure yet as the car is still at the dealers, i am collecting it in the morning and will update this post.

The chief service technician who has done the work, assures me that it will correct the problem and that even though the warning has been showing for some time it is an erroneous message which causes no damage to the battery.

20.01.00 added MP3 to my 4/05 build 545i. After updating to 20.01.01, some have reported better (some worse) Step shifting. And, some have reported a decrease in performance (some an increase). I am unclear on whether 20.02.00 might or might not have the same at least perceived effects. 20.01.00 was not hearalded as having the potiential for affecting Step shifting or performance. But, apparently, BMW changes things in its software updates that are not announced--or at least so the shop mananger and one of the shop foremen from my dealership say. They apparently get their info from BMW engineers.

Just upgrading to CIP 20.02 will NOT enable mp3 playback. The service dept. have to tick the relevant box & follow steps during the CIP upgrade to enable mp3 functionality. Their is a pdf somewhere on here that i gave my dealer last week.

This is the attachment I posted previously.. A CIP update will not automatically give you MP3. The dealer must follow the attached service bulletin. Print this out and take it with you!

If your dealer hasnt enabled the MP3 functoin, you can take it back under warranty - as MP3 enablement is covered by warranty.

Thanks for the link to the PDF.

JUST ONE PROBLEM!!!

I printed it out and took it to my dealer this afternoon, at first they seemed OK and said that they would do it, then the chief technical engineer came out and read it and pointed out that it only covers cars made from 03/05 upto 29/09/05. My car was built 18/10/05, so he says its not covered

If not i don't see how i can get the CIP upgraded again as i have the very latest version??

Does anybody have an updated version of this PDF that covers cars built later??????

By the way the CIP upgrade appears to have got rid of the HIGH BATTERY DRAIN error, i'll report back if it reappears.

I could see them arguing if your car was built prior to 03/05 but how in the world could they argue after. If after you should alrady be MP3 capable and if not then it is BMWs fault and they have to make it right. If you cannot select MP3 in your menu then it is their obligation to make it so. This SIB was only to fix those that were in between production runs and you were not. Tell them to take their head out of their behind and get with it (in a more polite manner of course ). They must do a measures plan and get u up and running whatever it takes.

There is no update to that SIB
