There was also word that MP3 may only be on CIP 17.0

Maybe 16.2 has it for Business Nav but for non-nav its on 17.0

Over here in Germany I know 16.1 has Mp3. 17.0 was a rumour, but it came on 16.1.
For MP3 the radio pro is needed.

If you have the radio business you can't play MP3's...

I don't know if the radio pro is standard or not. Here on the forum we thought it is standard in the US and Canada... Maybe not...!?

I've just got a confo on this.

You need option 663, Radio Professional.

The standard radio (also in the US) is the Radio Business.

MP3 is currently only available for:

Radio Professional

If you have:

Navigation Business
Navigation Professional
Radio Business

you don't get MP3 yet.

Navigation Business and Navigation Professional get it in September.

The Radio Business is, and will remain, unable to support MP3.

In checking the data sheet for the build of my car it indicates that option 676 Hi-Fi loudspeaker system was used along with option 645 - Radio control US. Taking it one step further and checking with the parts departement, it appears that the standard player is identifed as a CCC CD player. An optional part is listed as an M audio controller. It would appear on the basis of this information that perhaps the standard CD player in NA does not have MP3 capability.

I have confirmation via a reliable source. It appears that the standard NA CD player will not be able to play MP3's. I'm glad I have my ipod.

Is premium sound/Logic 7 also considered "standard". If it is, then how does one get a non-standard CD in NA?

Thanks.

Everyting I have ever seen says you need "prof" radio to get MP3

Even on the 1 Series and new 3 Series you need "prof" to have it
It works great in a 1 Series by the way

I know this doesn't help with the E60 but the 330xi loaner I used recently had a business radio (no changer) and it played MP3 discs without any problem...

3 Series (E46), cd players are totally different, although I have never seen one that played mp3's. There is an in dash CD player listed that is called "M-controller", it lists it as being mp3 capable. Its about $2600.00 Canadian, whereas the standard CD player is around $1500.00 Canadian. If we ever install one and it works, I will let you guys know. I'll also check to see if there is a CD changer available that can play mp3's, as it would make more sense to install one, rather than replace a perfectly good in dash CD player.

Bluetooth Fairy,

Thanks for recognizing yourself as a BMW tech.? I believe there are more here in the forum, however for legal reasons, they participate clandestinely.? If we have a minimum of a 100 members (anyone know how many) in the forum, BMW has over 4 or 5 million dollars worth of product in E60.net.? Seems like they'd drop in and check in on us.? But it's great to see someone like yourself taking a risk and setting a standard.?

I'm not so concerned about MP3 because I use the MS wav format to copy.? Fast copying, great quality, and you save a little space to add a couple more songs.? But for the others, your help seems to help them greatly.? I think you provided more information in one post then many of them have received from their own techs.

I just wanted to comment on your customer service.? OUTSTANDING!

Not sure exactly how many members, but there are at least 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like the number is more like 100 Million dollars, not to mention there are several members who have 2 or 5 cars. Most at my dealers are aware of the site, and the sales guys are real nervous about it.
