I took my car in to the dealer today for a SW update and to have a few minor issues addressed. Dealer received 16.2 overnight from AG and installed it on my car this AM. Over 35 modules required updating as part of the upgrade. I should be picking my car up late today or first thing in the AM.

Upon completion of the SW update, my SA called me and advised that they were unable to get MP3's to play back on the head unit. Is there anything in particular that must be done in writing the MP3 files to the CD, a certain burn spped, or sampling rate? Suggestions would be appreciated.

I am ADEMITT's advisor. We were unable to find any Retrofits in CIP 16.2 relating to the radio and MP3. When we updated car the M-ASK-GW & M-ASK-BO (radio) was not required. To make MP3 work, we then updated the above modules with CIP 16.2 without success. If anyone in North America has had success please let me know, as we believe the MP3 capability is currently only for Euro spec vehicles (as the screen shots taken on another post/thread).

This is typical of the service I have received at Calgary BMW. BT fairy and his colleagues are the best! One of the reasons I have bought ten cars (all bimmers of course) from them over the years.

I haven't got the car back yet, maybe later today. I will try to get a list of the changes forming the update and will post them once I have them in hand. I was told that there were only very minor changes between 16.1 and 16.2.

It will feel good to take the snow tires off my sig now that spring is finally here.

Car does not have NAV. I had 5 different MP3 cds and they all did not work, yet they work in another MP3 deck.

Yep..that was my suggestion, BTfairy

1) Check that you really do have a test CD written in data format with MP3 encoded files

2) I think the only car we have seen able to read MP3s has Nav of some sort, it's interesting this car doesn't have Nav..this might be a clue?

3) My dealer in the UK reckoned I'd need to have the prof version radio to be able to read MP3, does this US car have the equivalent of that?..this might be another clue?

Jeez..the suspense is killing me, reading MP3s seemed such a simple thing to able to do before I bought my 5. Now it is assuming mystical proportions

Good luck!

Yes, you need the Professional radio to play MP3 in Europe

Thought the USA + Canada cars had it standard ?

There was also word that MP3 may only be on CIP 17.0

Maybe 16.2 has it for Business Nav but for non-nav its on 17.0
