CIC Retrofit

Has anyone done this?
I want to install a CIC iDrive controller (which became available on 2009 models) on my 2008 530i. But my local bmw service center says it can't do it since bmw still does not support upgrading CCC systems to CIC. It's a bit hard for me to believe to what the service center says.
I heard that CIC is a whole different world compared to CCC iDrive (e.g. inlcudes HDD).
If retrofit is officially and technically possible, please tell me what I should buy and install additionally.

I don't have a precise answer to your question but I'll add some information to help clear up a bit of confusion.
There are 2009 cars with the new iDrive controller that are not CIC cars. They're still CCC or M-ASK cars, just like the older ones -- they just have the new controller. If you are just trying to upgrade the controller, it might be possible with the proper software and/or module upgrades. (No guarantee, just taking a guess here.)
As far as converting completely over to a CIC (hard disk) based system, I think that would be a huge task but then again, there are people here who've done some amazing things!

hey,
I've checked thru ETK software...u can find it at www.realoem.com
Looks like the wiring between CCC and old controller was different from the one in 2009 models with CCC.
Anyone tried that? Which replacement wiring I should buy to connect the new controller to CCC?
Regards,
Vladimir.

Ka-52 / sunxpert,
Not only is changing the iDrive controller very possible but swapping out your CCC for a CiC is also now a definite reality. In tandmen you can upgrade your screen, add NAV and now even modify your TCU to a Combox for many enhanced iDrive functionalities. Most of this has been made possible by a programmer by the name of Patryk who also sells all associated hardware and will support you through complete installation and coding setup with your car. I believe he's supplied and supported more than 70 CiC swaps since we began doing this last year. I am one of the guys that did this mod however there are now many others.
Sink your teeth into this thread (it provides info on the CiC mod and everything else you need to know):

Also you can read up some more on the Combox mod once you get past the CiC:

Any questions you may have are welcome.
