Thumbs up

The 535d (top of the derv range) doesn't come with a chrome slated grill, yet the 330d also top of the derv range does. I find this a bit strange! Even the old E39 535i had the chrome grill!

Do you get the chrome in other parts of europe? Does anyone Know?

Chrome slats are used by BMW to denote the largest "cylinder" engines in each rane. For the 3 series this is the 6 cylinder engines 325i, 330i and 330d. For the 5 series it is the 8 cylinder engines, 545i, hence why there is no chrome slatted grille on the 6 cylinder 535d.

Makes the car a bit more anonymous... If someone knows the 'top of the range' has chrome slats, the 535d will leave most things standing... (Even the 545i!)

Although, Sport styling and 19" wheels may give the game away! Are you planning to NMI?

Ah now thats the difference between veteran and senior membership, thank god I didn't ask the Ruthnium question, I don't need a beating from a metalurgist!

No I haven't opted for NMI. Whenever I see a debadged 5 I always think it must be a 520i. I never actually thought of the "Street-sleeper" reason.

An ex-colleague was most disappointed when he asserted that my car must of been an 520i because it was 'de-badged' - his face was a picture when I told him it was a 530...

Badge & model snobbery...............
