All this being said, I am just not that worried about it.? The M5 has 175 more HP, and is basically 1 second faster from 0-60 (4.7 is what I usually see.? Some say 4.5 but for my argument, lets say 4.7.).? Yes that is a lot, but when you take into consideration that the M5 is also lighter, how much more performance are you going to get from 35 more HP.? Yes, it will be quicker, and faster, but not enough to notice a significant difference.? What, instead of 5.7, it might do zero to sixty in 5.5 seconds.? I just don't see the values of the 545 plumeting overnight.? The 540 is still doing fine on the resale market.

Since 745 is 0.5s slower to 100km/h(62miles/h) then current 750, so its possible that 550 will be 0.5s faster then current 545, which is 5.3 vs 5.8s to 100km/h - E39 M5 figure.
The 545 has tested at 5.3 to 5.4 in a number of reviews already - the official figure of 5.8 is probably on the low side.
I am not sure where you are getting your information. The only test results I have seen show only a .1 second improvement from 5.9 to 5.8 seconds for the 750i compared to the 745i 0-60.

After much deliberation I've decided to wait for the 550i instead of picking up a 545i now. My dealer confirmed it was coming in the fall, and within the next two months he'll be able to place an order for one.
My first priority is performance, so it's difficult for me to turn down the 10% bump in hp and torque.

My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.
Good choice to wait - you are so close to the change-over.
When I was waiting for my 545i, a new X5 4.8 came in. I knew the change-over would come, but I did not realize so soon.
Although the 550 is not a huge increase over the 545, I am kind of bummed that mine is already not the newest within one year old.
The wait will suck, but you will enjoy it when you get it.
While I admit my german comprehension is almost nonexistent, the following is taken from the BMW.DE website:"BMW 750i in 5,9 Sekunden von 0 auf 100 km/h beschleunigt - begleitet vom sonoren Klang seines V8." I translate this as indicating the 750 officially does 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds. BMW officially rates the 745 at 5.9 seconds for 0-60 mph, and the numbers I have seen for the 745i 0-62 are 6.0 seconds even.
To me, this looks like a .1 second difference, not a .5 second difference.
Am I missing something?
