I know how to access the secret menu within iDrive that shows all sorts of technical data but which one tells me my software version or CIP code. I've heard that the code I'm looking for is displayed under SID HIDDEN VERSION.
Looking at this I have the following: 09-2006-I-510-MIG-20060 Does that mean anything to anyone or do I need to look somewhere else? I want to find out whether my software version should allow me to play MP3 CD's (and before anyone states the obvious, yes, I have tried putting an MP3 CD into both the CD slot and the CD changer without any obvious success).
For the record my car is a 530d (September 2004 build) bought used so I don't know whether the previous owner had any software upgrades.

You cannot check software version with a Pro Nav (CCC) system. Only dealer can tell you and he most likely will use Target data Status and not be able to convert to CIP (now PROGMAN) level. See my sticky in the Dealers forum for translation of Target Data Status if that is all they give you. Retrofit for MP3 on older cars began with PROGMAN 20.xx. It works all the way back to SOP

The MP3 playback issue is particularly annoying because the UK 2003 brochure for the E60 specifically states that the Professional radio/CD has an MP3 playback capability!
