Me too. I just purchased a 2009 550i 2 months ago and just recently it started shaking and misfiring but, no check engine light on. Went to Motorcepts in Queens NY and they replaced 2 coils and all plugs but, in the morning the engine still idles funny 400-700rpm up and down then it goes away after driving. Don't get it. What could be wrong? also just today the check engine light came on and the car was running smooth. My car has 51,000 miles

So should I replace all the coils or just the bad one (s)? Do you have to replace the plugs? Mine were replaced at 65K miles. I am now at 86K

Just the bad one. Coil failures seem to be random, and not related to time or mileage, so a bad one doesn't indicate the others are about to go. No need to change the plugs again. I changed a bad coil at about 165k, and the other 7 are still fine.

+1

Just change that 1 bad Coil. The Coils don't go bad that often but once one goes bad it goes bad for good.

Well I took the car in today and they pulled the codes. 3 codes showing cylinder 6 and 8 were misfiring and a general misfire code. They said two coils were begining to fail.

One other note: Last year i had a code for oxygen sensor that the dealer quoted me some outragous amount of money to replace. So i replaced it myself. My independant shop said the computer in the car was adapting the engine "thinking" the bad O2 sensor was still in there. I guess you have to reprogram for everything that plugs into the computer in these cars. They reset the computer for me for the O2 sensor.

To add to my maintenance bills they said my Mechatronics sleeve is leaking ($500) and the rear differential input seal ($550) from the driveshaft is leaking. They said these are "normal" issues they see with these cars.
