Hi all.
I placed an order for an LCI E61 525d last month. Thought I needed the space that the tourer gives you, but was back at the dealers yesterday (trying the 523i out for size) when i realised that I can get a E60 with drop down rear seats.
The 523i was nowhere near as "fun" to drive as the 525d, so I will be sticking to the diesel, but moving now to the saloon. With the extra ?2K saved, I decided to spend it on extra toys
So, My new motor in Wk 12[ish] will be...
525d SE Auto
Silver Grey
244 Dbl Spoke Alloys
Luxury Pack (Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Bamboo)
Comfort Seats
Front and Rear Heated Seats
Extended Interior Light Pack
BMW Prof Radio
USB Audio
Drop down seats
Visibility Pack
Folding Mirrors
Active Cruise.
Now the last 4 are the extra toys I am putting on above what I had specified for my E61. Have a few questions for the group.
1. Drop down seats -> Im assuming it will be a 60/40 split like most hatchbacks ? The dealer wasnt so sure and he didnt have any E60s with this feature in
2. Folding Mirrors -> are these worth ?330 ? or are they a novelty ? Do you use them much ?
3. Cabin -> Sat in an 523i M Sport with Black leather, black roof etc. It was very dark inside. have to say, the rear darkened windows did not help, but can anyone with the same interior post a pic or comment on this. My current car has beige leather and I find the interior to bright and it gets dirty very easily so wanted a dark colour. Saw a sample of Grey Leather, but that looked too light for me too.
4. Anyone seen/tried the Stop/Go Cruise ? My current motor has a similar feature, but doesnt break to 0, it only works from 25mph upwards, still a good feature on the motorways, so got to have this
5. Rear Electric Blinds -> As per folding mirrors, are these any good ? Not currently selected them though.
I have a week or two to finalise my choice. My slot has been booked (so the dealer says) but part of me wishes wk 10 was already here so I wont be able to think any more about the options
Comments and opinions most welcome. I dont want to buy an option that is a lemon, but dont want to miss a "must have" option either... decisions decisions ....

HI mate congrats nice car will you have.
Folding in always when in heavy traffic and ***** motorbikes cannot smash anymore my mirrors lol, electrochrome is good for the night driving, sensors built in the mirrors will filter direct high beams from behind you.
Active cruise is a waste of money, and not really good in use, I tried it nice, I wanted it, but what if nothing ever goes wrong in your E60, ok, but once you are already too much relayed on the technics, once it does not work on time and BAAANGGG the second reason to skip it nowadays if you leave a half-car space on the freeway some will immediately take you over, save that money.
Seats you can flip down all the way to the sitting level may be 1-5% higher I used it many times, big shopping, large Xmas tree so it is usefull.
The alcantar headliner I skipped, I was late with 2 days, my MAMBA was produced that time when we changed our mind, never mind I will retrofit alcantara roof in the color which matches my color lol
Good luck, hope to help you and post pix!

2. The folding mirrors are also auto-dimming which is nice. The passenger mirrors automatically dips down when you are reversing. I have this on my current car and really like it.
3. Not much to say here... as you are going for an SE the headliner will be light grey so it won't be too dark (like a m-sport which has a black headliner)
4. Hasn't been reviewed yet...
5. if you have kids (or ar planning a few) it is worth having
Other options to consider adding...
- headlight assist (not too expensive)
- hifi audio (the standard setup is so terrible you have to get this)
- comfort access (once you have it you will never go back)... expensive though

ats -> Active Cruise, Interesting comments, didnt really think about that as on my current car, once it gets slow, you have to take over anyway. Also, as Im switching from a manual to a auto, I guess its not that much of a hassle to slow down speed up Thanks for the feedback on the mirrors and especially the seats. Just what I expected so will go for these.
Raihne -> Again, thanks for the seats info, also some nice touched on the mirrors. Also glad of confirmation that the headlining in the roof will be grey and not black.
Not sure about headlight assist (is this option 5AC?) it might be in the vis pack ?, is it that useful ? Hi End Audio, Im not too much of an audiophile to be honest, there is a ?350ish upgrade option I think which I could consider, esp if I drop the active cruise
Comfort Access. I was thinking about this, does this open and close the boot too ?
Kids -> Have 2 of them, 12 and 9, so it may well be useful. Any problems with these rattling in their housings ?

Comfort Access works on any of the 4 doors and the boot. It really handy when you have your hands full and need to open the boot... no more fumbling for keys. Also you can never lock your keys inside the car or boot with CA as it detects the key is inside the car and won't let you do it.
I'm not sure about rattles with the sun-blinds. Some people have reported this but I don't think it is widespread.

Yes, 'high beam assistant' is option 5AC. It wasn't part of the visibility pack pre-LCI (perhaps that has changed?)

Just curious if your dealer already successfully added Anthracite Bamboo to the order? I want it also for my 525d (on order), but dealer was unable to enter it to the order yet, and he said it may not be available before June. I'm from Finland.

I am not an audiophile either... but even if you just like listening to the radio the HiFi sound is so much better. It's a relatively cheap option compared to many others. Of course, some people would argue that the HiFi version should be the standard setup in Europe (as it is in the US). The current standard setup is fairly disgraceful for a premium car.
I've got my order in and slot is booked, if the std euro hi fi is as bad as suggested here i may opt for the upgrade.... I could do with more opinions on this please.

This was a few weeks back, he had to set the configurator to a date after week 10 to get the right options up. This brought up the new colours too. (UK)
Just realised, my car is Space Grey and not silver grey. though not much difference I bet
