changing ELV and battery for $2100 ?
As I posted a thread about steering wheel lock malfunction,
the dealer said that I have wrong battery (which I don't believe) and need to change ELV
the car works find, so I though updating software may solve the problem, but they
want $2100 for ELV + battery (plus registration) + labor for $2100
Anyone done at indy shop?

What is ELV? Every Loving Virgin?
You should do the battery replacement yourself. Registering the battery takes literally 5 seconds if you have INPA software.
Good luck!

If you had any battery except a BMW battery they will tell you it is the wrong battery. The $tealers work hard to maintain the mystique around batteries. Dealers who tell you BMW batteries are magic just makes them look like fools, but unfortunately the uneducated buy it hook, line and sinker. And they certainly have a vested interest in not letting the dirty little secret get out. Wouldn't you like to be able to charge $500 for something you buy for $120 and spend 15 minutes installing and programming?
Registration is only critical if you switch from a FLA to an AGM, as without registration you can overcharge the AGM.
The Electronic Steering Lock error (ELV) can be software or mechanical in the steering lock mechanism. If the car starts and drives it is very likely a software problem. A good Indy can reprogram it and register your replacement battery if you didn't do it previously.

Here in Champaign IL does not have any car repair shop with program. Also they wont
even fix BMW. So I had to fix it by them. They charged $1300 for labor. And gave me $150
dollar discount lol.....total $1960....what a nightmare....
Since I changed almost all wear out parts, I think I am going to keep the car until I die
