My single disc dash CD player won't play long mixed CDs. Is this something that can be fixed with a software upgrade or did we just get a cheap CD player?

A couple of additonal things to keep in mind when using/making "home burnt" CD's:
- Many CD players (not CD-ROM drives) have a hard time playing CD-RW discs. Stick with CD-R's for better compatibility.
- No matter what the maximum burn speed you're CD burner supports, it's always a good idea to burn things that you intend to play in stereos, etc. at the slowest speed allowed by your software. The slower burn speed will help your discs be more universally compatible in other types of equipment.

Software and Hardware companies recommend not to burn over 24x. I have burned at 40x, by accident and it worked fine, but, I usually burn between 16-24x and they always play fine.

I agree about slowing down the burn speed and using CD-R's. Also be careful not to go over the mb limit of the disc. Like when you put your disc together right up to the limit and then your software adds those annoying 2 second spaces between tracks.

Also, make sure that you are "closing the session" on the music CD... otherwise it is not playable in normal CD players. I have burned many a disk and played in my E60 so far.

Ultraplanet,
You can get rid of those 2 second pauses by selecting the properties of the track and changing seconds to frames and change the number of frames from 150 to 1. You can do that to all of them but track 1.

Skidster, what makes you so sure that the burn speed isn't related to device compatibility?
In my first-hand experiences, many times it clearly made the difference between a disc that a player wouldn't even recognize and a disc that played perfectly every time.
