I have the CDC in my glove box but don't have a magazine cartridge.

If I purchased the magazine would my car automatically recognize the CDC or would I still have to some kind of programming at the dealer?

I would hazard a guess that as you have the changer installed the car is already programmed for it.

If the CDC itself is in there, then the car should already be programmed for it.

The previous owner probably just lost the cartridge (I don't know how, I never take mine out of the car - LOL).

There could have been an iPod interface in there that the PO removed to trade it in.. If you can play MP3's in your in-dash CD player, then just get the iPod adapter kit. It's $270 from your local parts dept if you are a BMWCCA member. 15 minute install, no programming req'd (if you can play MP3s).

Yeah I never thought of that.

However I tried MP3 Cd's and does not work. Hmmm...I wonder where that cartridge went your right previous owner must have lost it.

There are PLENTY of guys on here that have already done the iPod upgrade. If you want the CDC and not the iPod, post a WTB in the classifieds. I'm sure someone would sell you their old cartridge on the cheap.

No thats what I'm shooting for is the IPOD interface I just wanted to make sure that i was not going to have to have my CDC enabled at the dealer.

Well, if your car doesn't play MP3s, then you need a progman update anyway. Even *IF* the CDC did have to be enabled (and like I said, I don't think it does), it shouldn't cost you any additional $$ since they are already going to be reprogramming the car as it is.

And I don't know who was getting this done for $140, but my local dealer wants $400 to update progman..
