Wondering if anybody has noticed this on their 5 series, when your listening to a CD and then you park the car and leave it for a hour or even over night, when you return to the car and switch the CD player on that it's played at least 1 track more than when you left it or even switched itself to the radio.
Is this normal or do I have a software problem?

Yes, it is normal and yes, you have a problem. BMW is working on it. The Service Bulliten(s) are in another thread, but all the latest one said is they would announce when they had a fix. The thread is the one with MP3 bulletin in title.

I even got the CD player giving out mechanical cracking noise, and of course the symptoms you mentioned.

Since my update to CIP19, I had the noise once and had not had any of the other symptoms; or maybe I choose to ignore now.

I very strong suspect it was due to the fact that when the engine is cut off, the CD player loses power and couldn't store what it is doing in time. Since CIP19 I have noticed that the CD/Radio will continue to play for another second or so after the engine is cut off. Perhaps that extra bit of time allows the system to do the house keeping properly.

Hi,
it happened to me just today: I was listening a CD from the CD changer, arrived to my destination and switched the engine off.

When I started it again after half an hour, I got playing the MP3 CD that was in my CD player, not the changer.

Moreover I noticed that to stop the CD at the current track I have to switch to radio, otherwise if I only use the knob near the CD, it continues to play (mute).

My dealer told me that these two facts are normal and for the moment there is not a fix from BMW.

Is it true? Where can I find the service bulletins?

I have a new 530d Touring 2006.

Thanks

Here is one.

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=20707

And another of a fix already in

The following software errors were corrected with the release of CIP 19.01.00 (Target data Status E060-05-09-530).

The audio keeps playing if the vehicle is switched off for up to 3 minutes (until vehicle enters sleep mode). The audio cannot be switched off with the rotary knob. Only vehicles with CCC (Car Communication Computer) are affected.
