I saw a couple of posts indicating that newer CD changers may be MP3 capable. Can someone confirm this?? Also, has anyone tried retrofitting the changer to MY05 and got the MP3 capability (if it is possible)??

None of the changers till date are mp3 enabled. There was a plan to introduce them last year with the LCI but I think the iPOD and USB took priority in the BMW R&D centre.

In fact the latest changers will read and play mp3s. I have a 520d SE, March 08 build and yesterday I burnt a CDR with MP3s and the changer read them and played them without a problem. At the moment the functionality is a little limited, in that track names are not displayed, so with a CD full of stuff it can take some time to find the track you want. But its better than nothing.
But this is new news on this forum atleast. I wonder when the part changed. Not that I'm doubting you but are you sure you have the tracks written as data mp3 and that your buring software didn't convert them to an audio cd because of an option. Do you have more than about a 100 tracks on the CD? My Changer does not even display CD text so I'd imagive a Changer with mp3 that does not display the track names is near impossible to use because of all the navigation needed for things like folder etc.

So the bottom line is, there's still no CD changer in the E60 that plays MP3 to date. Thread
