As an update: the 'expert assessors' from the supermarket have visited my motor and insist that merely flushing the tank is all they will pay for. It seems they said the same for the 15 other Beemers that were there. BMW France insist that the guarantee will be voided unless fuel pump, injectors, fuel lines etc etc, are replaced. My insurance assessor visits next wednesday. I written to BMW AG, interested to see what they will say, and everyone says don't worry, so I am

Supermarket 'expert assessors' and lawers my ass.
Seems you are in for a lawsuite!

What supermarket is it? Get the press there!
Sorry, but don't take no for an answer.

The best thing would be to get rid of the whole car, this one will not last too long!

Now it's an insurance job, new fuel pump, injectors and god know what else. Visitors from Hong Kong arriving on Monday so I'm not a happy chap at all. I've read about people filling up from the wrong pump, but you sort of have to trust the garage. Aaaaaaaargh!
So, how are things going now ? Is your car still by the dealer ?
I've stopped buying diesel at Supermarkets - although I do not know whether sticking to Excellium from Total or BP Ultimate diesel will avoid your problem in 100% of cases!
Hope things are getting settled !

not a nice position to be in, but no way would i accept that, if teh car was driven that far it needs the lot. sorry to say engine will be fine but fuel system will be knackered.

Question

The fuel tank and lines WILL have to be removed and at the very least flushed through.
The low and high pressure fuel pumps WILL have to be replaced along with the injectors.
Do NOT accept anything less.
The diesel (fuel) acts as the lubricant for the above mechanical bits. Petrol has no lubrication properties at all therefore there will have been unacceptable wear taking place.
The pistons/valves etc should be ok though.
This happened to a collegue of mine although he put petrol in it himself and when he contacted the RAC (auto club!!) the first thing they said was DO NOT start the car. BMW then said he'd saved a potential ?2-2.5k repair bill

yup pretty much the story, you got to think of the pressure the fuel pump is at , they just rip themselves to bits once the diesel is gone.
Its not a nice story at all.

MERDE!

What station was that?

They will/must pay for all costs including a fully brand new engine to your car
and a similar loaner for the time your car is at the BMW dealers.

You must also get a new diesel tank and all fuel lines must be replaced.

All in all, a ten days old car should actually be fully replaced.

Riku, didn't something like this happened in Finland lately? Or was it diesel in petrol pump?

At least 1982 Kawasaki GPz 1100 did not run very well with diesel!

This still happens but usually not to new cars anymore.
A diesel piston don't fit a unleaded gas tank.

The old story was my stepdads customer putting diesel
into a gasoline car (first E12 520i's in late 70's).
