Who has purchased the diagnostic app for your Android phone called Carly for BMW Pro?
Will it register a new battery?
Is it worth the $60?
How much better is it than the free Carly for BMW app?

There is loads of good things about Carly, from what I have seen first hand. However some people are complaining about fatal failures using the software, although less common. Not sure what to do myself as I am in the same boat as you OP and wonder if it's worth the money to do some coding myself.

I have it. Not sure what I paid initially but battery registration was an additional fee.
It works OK but it is a bit slow doing diagnostics and my Bluetooth dongle drops out now and then.
Because of this I usually just use INPA or ISTA/D with a cable.

Is there an option to only check the battery type and last registration date without paying additional fee?
You can check what battery is currently coded but I do not think you can check last registration date unless you pay. Keep in mind, if you do plan on purchasing the app, you will also have to purchase the carly gen 2 adapter. It is the only one that will work 100%. All others will only work with some functions.
Got Carly gen 2 adapter and Pro version software + battery reg. additional in-app option.
I can see the mileage of previous battery registration and amp rating but still can't see the battery type (AGM or standard).
Not sure if this is option visible during new battery registration.
