The alarm is optional in Europe as well.

But if some professionals really want to steal your car the alarm is a laugh.

In Europe a lot of X5's where stolen, the rumour was that some eastern crims
found out about the codes - BMW did change the system, and now not many X5's disapear.

The Russian (a hugely vast country) market has a constant demand of stolen cars and the
Russian mob is ready to provide...

So if the con pros want your car, it goes by lifting the car into a truck or the keys are stolen.

The E60 is protected as good as it can be!

The stolen cars from Malaysia are dismantled for parts, but are mostly Jap models.

There's no way of preventing car theft in Malaysia. They don't steal your car; they hijack it. There have been many cases of Singaporeans crossing into Malaysia for some Malaysian food, cheap petrol and cheap shopping but ended up losing their priced possessions (cars) at gunpoint. One guy had his hand cut off whilst another lost his life.

Just a few days ago, a few Malaysians tried to hijack a BMW (don't know the model) using the age old trick of ramming the vehicle from behind. The occupants got out to check and one of them got shot. The driver gave his keys to the carjackers and both of them (the driver and wounded) fled the scene. Fortunately for them, the carjackers couldn't start the car and left it there. There have been speculation about these guys not knowing how to engage the footbrake before turning the key with some even suggesting that there was some security mechanism in place. My gut feel is that by ramming the car, the carjackers actually activated the device which disconnects the battery which resulted in them not being able to start the car.

BTW, a used E60 (stolen) is worth MR 50000.00 over there.
