My 545 was stolen last Friday and found on Tuesday. Locked.
The person who stole it used a spare key (gotten from inside my home) to take the car and still hasthe key itself.

The car was only taken a mile away and a laptop was stolen from the trunk. So the person who took the car probably doesn't want to take the actual car, but still has free access to it.

The BMW dealership says $1100 for parts and $1100 for 4 hours of labor?!?! to replace the locks and reprogram the computer.

It's a 2005... so I'm not sure an independent dealer will have access to reprogram the car.

Any ideas on other options?

Have you talked to your insurance company?

I did talk to insurance. They cover a new key but not the re-keying of the car. When I said that this meant the car was still a liability to be stolen they agreed, but that was the policy. I guess in the grand scheme of things the cost for them to cover re-key'ing a car outweighs the risk of it getting stolen again and then paying out for a new car? Doesn't make sense to me though. I am going to get this done one way or another. I just can't stand paying BMW $275 an hour to do the work.

I would park it and then stake it out, and then CATCH THE BASTARD in the act!!

Of course I also had GPS tracking and LoJack installed - so basically if my car ever gets stolen the best thing for the thief will be if the police find him before I do

You can always try this, guaranteed this guys will NEVER mess with your car again:

Honestly, that seems like a good idea at first. To stake out and watch the car. The thing is, can you legally shoot him for entering your car like that? Or would you have to quietly shoot him and then dump his body in a lake and keep it inside forever?

I'd go with the latter.
