Well group, I certainly hope most everyone is enjoying their BMW stereo, because I'm about to resort to humming my favorite songs. I have searched through the forums about the relentless stereo static issue and just as I'm approaching a possible solution someone may have identified (a replaced unit here and a replaced unit there), I have NOT been able to identify what the exact "fix" for the problem is so that I can take it back to my dealership. Is there a direct avenue I can take with BMW corporate?

Anyway, I apologize in advance for starting a new and rather long discussion thread... but I'm spent! Here we go.....

Issue: Routine static on both AM and FM stations (not noticing anything on CD). FM actually loses reception for approximately a minute and regains reception. Stereo is NOT updgraded Logic 7.

Date Issue First Identified: March '04... Car purchased in January '04.

Issue Trends: None. Issue occurs randomly, but persistently. Almost seems like stereo is picking up interferance from something.

Corrective Measures: 1) Replaced entire stereo in dash; 2) Replaced TCU; 3) Replaced ASK; 4) NUMEROUS software upgrades.

Successes: Replacing the stereo unit in the dash corrected a separate issue with the CD player only... no success with the stereo static.

Dealership: BMW of Dallas

ANY help this group can provide would be greatly appreciated!! Regards and happy driving...

Mack

Maybe you just have bad radio reception?

I've had issues all along with bad AM radio feedback after every spoken word, CD crackling at louder volumes, etc. I've had no issues with FM at all. It all seems random. Anyway, my dealer has replaced everything (Speakers, CCC unit, etc) and they cannot fix my issues. My dealer said thats because its not Logic 7. Sorry but, I think we have to live it with it as long as we have the car.

This sounds like an intermittent bad connection somewhere within the antenna.

I have the same problem. One day, it works great, the next day, I can't even listen to local stations. My dealer ingnores the problem (the usual "cannot reproduce" crap...).

I'm with u here. It appears to be in the antenna to radio area. Could be at either end and more likely at far end since there was work at the head (replaced) unit. Since it is limited to antenna reception rather than with CD is why I say this. I do not suppose there is an Aux In. If so and that worked OK as that would be another reason to suspect antenna related (cable route through vehicle, etc).
