Did you remove the charcoal filter? If so that has an effect. And if you also change filter media the "fuel/air ratio" changes and the oxygen sensor may not be able to compensate since you don't have a 'throttle body" but have to depend on valve lift.
I removed the charcoal filter (as recommended by many here to let the car breathe).

Did that happen only after you removed the charcoal filter?

K&N filter are 100% OK in a E60.
I have had my car for over 2 years and the K&N for 18 months and it has been doing very well.

You need to put oil in the K&N filter but don`t over cook it

Gentlemen, today, my car stalled three times while moving. Each time, the stall occurred when I was braking. My RPM meter seems to dive when the car is coming to a stop. When the car stalled, the meter dropped too suddenly.
When I put the H&N filter in the car a couple of weeks ago, the car started to make some strange RPM movements at the lower speeds.
Any relationship? Does the computer have to be reset with the H&N filter to accommodate a better flow of air?

Perhaps I got a bad tank of gasoline. I am not sure.

Any thoughts?
I would think it has to do with the idle valve control unit, either you have a leak in connecting hose or you have a faulty idle valve control unit. Let us know what you find ...

I don't think it would be the idle control unit because it evidently was ok before he removed the charcoal filter. removing that filter has a great effect on the engine performance. The air filter doesn't do much if anything. The air / fuel ratio is set to about 13.5 / 1. by removing the charcoal filter the oxygen sensor has to send additional fuel to compensate for the additional air flow.

PS: The oxygen sensor is not active until it warms up to it's proper temerature. During warmup the engine is running in a "closed loop". Therefore the engine is controlled with a pre programed module, which is calibrated with the charcoaql filter installed.

It sounds like oil may come in contact with the air-flow meter. The hot wire on the AFM is very sensitive and if oil especially gets on it then your car will stall and sometime not even start

My buddy experienced the same problem as the OP when he put too much oil after cleaning his K&N filter at 30,000 miles. BUT, the OP bought it new, so go figure.

It is colder here (Miami), but that means that it is only 65-70 degrees in the morning. I hear that we are going to get down to the mid to high 50's later this week.

High humidity along with high air flow (without charcoal filter) can result in frost accumulation in the air intake system until warmed up.
