Perhaps you havnt had someone 100mtrs ahead of you pull out in front of you, and it takes 200mtrs to lose the speed? I have at only 120mph, and if they hadnt have moved back in, one or both of us would have been toast!

155mph will take a ballistic amount of time to stop, or drop speed to match other (say 70mph) vehicles.

I would reccomend a reality check - brake from 155 and see how long it takes - do it near a dealer as you will likely need new pads
As long as the warranty is good for replacing the brake pads, rotors, etc then who cares

It doesn't happen too often, but when a car does go flying past me on the A-bahn its usually an M, AMG, Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini (I even saw a DB-9 once). No "average" car in the bunch. And you can bet if all of these cars can go this fast they can stop going so fast almost as quickly.

I've been driving on the Autobahn for several years and I've never seen a situation where somebody just "cut in" to the passing lane without giving warning. I'm not saying it doesn't happen though, and I agree that 155mph is excessive on any public road with other traffic. I'm assuming the driver knew how to handle the car at that speed otherwise you wouldn't be typing on this forum.

I'll bet after saying a few choice words the driver got right back on the gas, didn't he?

Like I said before if you are used to driving that fast then making a hard deceleration is not a problem. Apparently, YOU are not used to it.

BTW - where exactly did this event take place?

Sorry to take exception but, except in very unusual cases, tires intended for swap during a race are prepped for running - that may include run-ins on a dyno type machine or even a few laps during practice. That was the way we did it when I ran with an SCCA ticket for Team Datsun at Road Atlanta, Pocono, and Lime Rock. New rubber is not popped out of a mold and run up to triple digits under the stresses of a race.

I'll stick to my regimen ... especially dessert

Understood. Keep in mind, I wasnt racing. I was driving very fast in a straight line. The conti sports felt quite nice. Not my first choice in tires but sufficient nonetheless.

NEVER give up dessert.

Personally, I wouldn't favor what an individual employee (regardless of his position in the company) told me vice what is published in writing by BMW. If something did go wrong I'm sure BMW could figure out that the motor was not being run as per their recommendations and things could get ugly.

BUT

It's your car so if you are cool with it then enjoy!
Personally, I give more weight to the comments of the guys actually putting these motors together than the lawyers who wrote the manuals. But thats just me. What do I know. My car may just blow up soon and then I'm really the idiot. I guess time will tell.

All the best

If you haven't done so already. Try the A95 (or 96?) from Munich to Garmisch. Its got some pretty good straight-aways and there is not too much traffic once you get out of Munich.

The A8 from Munich to Salzburg is another good route. More traffic but alot more turns and hills as you get into the Alps.

Just keep your eyes on the road - the mountan views are breath taking

As you can see from the gear and the rpm, this car has more room to go but the electronic nanny was doing her job quite well
White knuckles???

That's werid because my previous car, an 06 e60 530i, has done 260 on the speedo.

Interesting. 260kph is about 156 mph, or not much more than the 153 on polepositions car -- but the 260 kph is about 6K rpm and polepositions was 153 and about 4.5K rpm
