if he parked diagonal, wouldn't the other party's insurance company might give him trouble for doing so? they could easily say that the car wasn't parked right?.. I hope it get solved to best of OP's interest but hey insurance companies are ass wipes.

Its not much fun when your car is in the shop, but you will really appreciate her when she comes out of the shop. Hopefully it won't be too long.
not true. if the car had been hit in the front, the bumper and possibly hood would have gotten damaged....parts that are just bolted on and can easily be replaced. getting hit in the doors and especially the rear quarter are the worst places to get hit. odds are that those doors will be patched and bondo'ed. even if the whole doors were replaced, they would never be reassembled as good as they are from factory.
Lets get the elephant out the room, it was a Chevy, not a GMC, according to those pics.
But anyway, sorry to see that. My dad did something similar to the 5er two winters ago when he hit a patch of ice pulling into the garage, causing the car to spin its wheels and move sideways into the edges of the bricks of the outside partition of our garages. The damage was very similar, with the addition of massive scrape marks on the side.
I think he paid of out pocket and just got the new door panel. Paint was perfect too on a BSM car.
Sucks that it happened despite the precautions you took, though.
Always sad to see.
