Car failed inspection... (no comunication with OBDII)

Hey guy... hoping your having a good thanksgiving...
so....
I took my car to get it inspected yesterday, everything was ok until they hooked it up to the OBDII, the computer could not establish any communications, he tried to several times with no luck...
I have the older m54 engine on my e60, so I looked for the direct connection where the Peake tools are used.. soemtime if the cap it not on properly it doesnt work... but couldn't locate it... anyone else had this problem?

Take it to a shop that knows what they are doing the obdII is a can-bus system go to autozone tell em to try and read it if they could read it that means the dude at the inspection place dont know what he talkin about or do wht they do out here in the bx pay $50 and the car passes with flying colors!

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
That sucks....

the thing is the guy tired using a obdii reader... selected BMW, 2004, 530i on the OBDII reader... and still got a comunication error?
I can pay a bit more and get the car passed but I'm worried something maybe wrong w my obdii conntection ?

My Ride: 2004 BMW 545i
If I recall correctly when I was in the market for a scanner/reader, it had to be the newest version with can. Older version has a good chance of it not reading our cars. Like others have said, try going to a shop that has the can/newer version. Weird though that the shop you went is still working on the old one. Good luck..........

the one that's hooked to the DMV computer seems old... but the other scanner he used was pretty new with LCD screen lol... both had the communication error...
