I have another newbie question family. This weekend I was detailing the car (wash, clay, polish, wax) with info i got from this forum by the way. I had the keys out and all four door locks was in the up position. I was in the middle of polishing the car when all of a sudden, all four doors locked by itself and the windows were up. Good thing the keys were in the garage or else i would have been in big trouble. I only got 1 key when i bought the car and when I called the dealer about a new key, they told me $185. Does anybody know why this happened?

when i was washing my car, it happened to me with the key in my pocket, every time when i wash thru the door handle, it locks or unlocks, so i found out that it has sensor
now, i dont need to press the key to lock or unlock my car
probably you touch the handle when you was polish etc

If you have comfort access getting into close proximity of the door handles will cause locking and unlocking - and I think washing / water increases the range of the antennae. I place my keys nearby [not in my pocket] when I'm washing my car otherwise the locks cycle whenever I'm near the door handles.

A 2004 530 does not have Comfort Access so that is not the issue...
So the key was just sitting by itself in the garage? If it were in your pocket I would say you accidently hit the lock button. If the key was sitting by itself in the garage, I am at a loss to explain.

probably you accidently locked the car and when you unlock the car, you didnt open the door for a while and relocked itself for the safety reason... check your Idrive and see if you select that function..

Well, I had my key on the top of the car while mounting my kayak. Suddenly all the doors locked. I found it strange. Then, it did some strange stuff. In my case the battery of the key was a bit low. I drove the car for 45 min. non- stop and everything went back to normal. 2008 with no comfort access.
