White smoke = a water problem
Blue smoke = oil
Black = fuel
You need to be sure which it is!!! Your garage will advise!

My 325xi was doing this a few days ago. It may be a seal issue or a gasket. Have them check under the car to make sure the tranny is sealed up fine. Did the smoke smell a little like a diesel engine mixed with brakes? That's how I described the smell of the (white) smoke that came from the vents at the top of my hood.

I meet with a Euro club on Thursdays, there are alot of good mechanics I could hopefully snag to help me do some of those complicated jobs.

You actually reminded my to go get the smoke checked out. What was occurring as well is, when the car was stopped (lights, stop signs) the oil indicator flashed on and off almost like it was flickering... But oil levels were fine so I blew it off. The smoking stopped the next time I started my car...

Im thinking its a master head gasket. The exhaust smelled like oil. If there is a bad seal more oil can enter and mix with gas to create all the smoke. Thats my theory

Just heard from shop, he says its a bad crank valve. Its under the intake somewhere which regulates the oil into the engine. He said hes 90% sure, we will see.
