My Ride: 535i 6-speed
Model Year: 2008
I just found something interesting about playing *.mp3s. My car is an '08 LCI 535i with the iPod option...it has a USB port. I basically copy my "My Music" folder to a 8G USB stick, plug it in the port and the songs, complete with folder structure show up on the nav screen. When I rip a song from a CD onto my computer (and ultimately to my USB stick) I set the bitrate for '128kbps'...or when I get a song from Limewire, I get a version that is 128kbps.
Well, I had a particular song that was obtained from Limewire and it was 247kbps. This song would play fine on my PC, but would not play in my car...when I selected it, the screen just moved to the next selection and played it. I converted the song from 247kbps to 128kbps and now it plays fine in the car. So I was thinking that anything above 128kbps maybe has a problem with our stereos. So I just checked, and I also have a few that are 320kbps and they play fine in the car too...so my theory is wrong. Maybe in the process of converting the file from 247kbps to 128kbp, something got fixed...I dunno. It could be that specifically 247kbps has an issue. Anyway, I just wanted to bring this up in case anybody had the same issue. BTW...using the USB stick is the best thing ever. I can get like 15,000 songs on it...AND I don't have to deal with iTunes, *.mp4s, or anything Apple. As far as I'm concerned, there is a special play in hell for *.mp4s...but that's an entirely different subject...
