You are right. But in my experience if you want something done right you usually have to do it yourself. You may pay someone to do your lights but in a year it can come back.

Take the headlight out, wetsand (400, 600, 800 grit) it and clean it well with dishsoap after, let dry.
Then go to walmart and pick up a can of rustoleum laquer for less than $5
Rust-Oleum 1906830 Lacquer Spray, Clear, 11-Ounce - Amazon.com

Just did this for a set of headlights a few months back for a friend and we were both very pleased. Shiny like new. You have to let the lights dry for a while, i would say 24 hours.
How many coats of the laquer would you recomend? I read your diy but didnt see if it was mentioned or not. Ive wetsanded and buffed mine out with plastx and it looks great but like you said, it comes right back after awhile. Especially in the Florida sun. Also is any wetsanding involved after applying the laquer? Im very clueless when it comes to paint lol

Thanks!

i use automotive paint clear (dupont), after a few coats, i also do a color sand buff, i treat it as if it were a cars panel.

How many months do you get out of this? I've cleaned a few sets of headlights and the best sealer I've used so far is Blue Magic Headlight lens sealer. I think I got like 3 months one time with this. Without any sealer on the car I got 1 month.

I'm going to try cleaning mine with a Maguire's kit. I just wish there was an option to change to glass lenses like my e36 M3.

I've used Mother's and 3M's kit. I prefer Mother's although 3M is faster.

What about putting a clear sticker film on the headlight to protect, instead of painting?

With the contour of the lights housing, unless the stickers are created with that shape, the stickers may not stay there for a long time. Furthermore, wind, rain [and headlight washers spraying water on them], stickers may not stay for a long time.
