Can you turn the screen off completely

My Ride: 545i Sport 6MT
I'm sure this will be a quick yes or no, but does anyone know if you can turn the screen off completely vs just having the display go blank?
I have my steering wheel control set to toggle it on and off, but I'd rather it go actually off (black) instead of go blank (gray).
At night, it would look a lot nicer just off so you don't have that gray screen in your face if you are cruising down the highway.

I just put a dark cloth in front of the screen.

Do you guys have the 6" or 8" screens? I noticed that with the 6" screen it would only blank, but the backlight would stay on, but when I upgraded to pro nav, the 8" screen actually switched off completely.
)
